Building Community Through Parenting Support: Triple P in Action

August 19, 2025

May was a vibrant month for parenting education efforts at First 5 Humboldt, particularly through the implementation of the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program, supported by our CYBHI grant. Two Triple P series—each consisting of three sessions—were successfully held in partnership with Weitchpec Elementary and Mattole Valley Resource Center. These events not only offered caregivers evidence-based parenting tools, but also created welcoming spaces where families could share a meal, receive child care, learn about local resources, and most importantly, connect with one another in community.

Looking ahead, we are excited to bring Spanish-language Triple P sessions to the Redway community and to the Center in McKinleyville. Additionally, an English-language series is planned for September at the Jefferson Community Center in Eureka. Details and registration for these upcoming sessions will be shared soon via the First 5 Humboldt Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as through printed flyers distributed across our communities.

In other CYBHI news, June 30, 2025 marked the conclusion of the original grant period, but we are thrilled to share that First 5 Humboldt has received a no-cost extension through June 2026. This extension allows us to continue deepening our parenting support work across the county.

As part of our plans for the year ahead, we’re expanding our Triple P capacity by pursuing certification in Level 3 Discussion Groups and Primary Care sessions. These additional levels are well-aligned with First 5 Humboldt’s current programs and will help us offer more flexible and responsive parenting supports to families throughout the region.
