Board certified lactation consultant, Star Siegfried, developed a lactation program for the Child Birth Center in 2004. Her expertise comes from 20 years as an OB RN, and 12 years as a lactation consultant. Star’s goal is to work with all post-partum and NI CU mothers and babies who are breastfeeding. She is also responsible for RN training and in-services and interfaces with the physicians. Star facilitates a weekly Mothers’ Support Circle and teaches a monthly, “How-to” breastfeeding class. Her goal is to make sure that mothers leave the hospital satisfied and empowered with their ability to breastfeed their babies.

Star has worked with mothers and babies since graduation from nursing school in 1982. As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), she has been in private practice since 1996. When Star is not working at St. Joseph Hospital as the Lactation Consultant, she is in her Old Town office offering prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding instruction, management and support.

Star is available for consultation by appointment. Consultations include troubleshooting, latch, milk supply, nipple pain, twins, returning to work, maternal/infant illness and much more. Monthly breastfeeding classes and weekly postpartum support circles are available, without charge, to all members of the community. Pump rentals, high quality breast pumps and pumping supplies for sale are available.

I believe in offering non-judgmental support in breastfeeding basics to challenging infant feeding situations. I have spent the past several years working both with inpatients and outpatients within the local health systems, both as a lactation educator and as a Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

I am available for individualized home visits. A typical consultation is about 1.5 hours. Depending on what is going on for you and your baby, one to three visits are usually sufficient. Ideally, we will work together to make a plan that fits you and your baby’s needs. You will receive a written plan with your goals, and follow-up phone availability. Sliding scale fees available.
